8 March - Day 9 - A warm welcome

Today we welcomed clients back in to the Centre again and it was lovely to see how pleased they all were to be returning. The welfare team have done a brilliant job keeping in touch with everyone but we all know that seeing people (socially distanced of course) face to face is much better.

Now I know that the most important thing you probably want to know today is not the reopening or the fact that we’ve had a further 17 sponsor a spins over the weekend - a huge thank you to everyone.

Instead, I realise you will have all been awaiting with trepidation for news on the electric warming socks. Well… having made sure they were fully charged over the weekend, I put the little battery packs in the special pockets in the side of the socks this morning and connected them half an hour before I was due to leave (as advised). So, not wanting the outcome to be delayed any further…THEY WORKED! In fact, half way here, I was concerned that the pressure on the pedals was causing them to work overtime and that my feet were burning. Now, the danger of course is that you’ll all think now that the challenge is not as much of a challenge as it was. I can reassure you, that even though I may have warmer toes, the hills have not got any easier and the rain this morning (which I wasn’t expecting) managed to soak me completely all the way here. After 225 miles, the journey continues…
