30th Anniversary Bishop's Walk
This year is St Wilfrid’s Centre’s 30th anniversary of supporting homeless and vulnerable people.
Yes, it has been 30 years since Monsignor Kilgannon founded St Wilfrid’s Centre and to celebrate our work Bishop Ralph Heskett, Bishop of Hallam, is supporting the Bishop’s Walk 2021, our annual charity trek in the Peak District, which will take place on Friday 1st October 2021.
Bishop Ralph has agreed to start the walk and accompany us for some of the way!
Our Director, Ruth Moore, will be one of the leaders on this special anniversary ‘edition’ of our Bishop’s Walk and we have invited two groups of walkers to walk a circular route of approx 15km, one group to walk clockwise, the other anticlockwise, starting off from the same point, meeting in the middle for lunch and at the end for a drink. Together we will walk 30km. This will not be a competition of speed between the walkers, though there will be a challenge or two thrown in to make the event even more fun! Please sponsor the walkers as this will not be a ‘walk in the park’ and of course we are raising money to help support our work with vulnerable people.
It has been a very difficult time for our clients, many of whom have been socially isolated for most of their adult lives, however we have been there for them to support them throughout the pandemic.
Thanks for all the support we have received.
Here is the link to our JustGiving page, please sponsor the walkers if you can. https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/StWilfsBishopsWalk2021 or use the button below to use our own online form.
Sheffield Half Marathon
It has been 30 years since Monsignor Kilgannon founded St Wilfrid’s Centre. Since 1991, with a dedicated team of volunteers and staff, the Centre has been a supportive, trusted, welcoming community for homeless, vulnerable and socially isolated people.
During the past 17 months many of us have had a small taste of what life is like for many of our clients. Feeling lonely, socially isolated and frightened is a daily experience for vulnerable people and we at St Wilfrid’s Centre have been working throughout the pandemic to provide support in whatever way we were able.
Opening fully on 2nd August we continue to provide support to those in need. Please help St Wilfrid’s Centre by sponsoring our runners in the Sheffield Half Marathon.

Sponsor A Spin
Together, we can make a difference, one day at a time
Sponsor a Spin – Challenge 30 - 30 weeks - 30 miles a day
To try and lead the way with Challenge 30 as part of St Wilfrid’s Centre’s 30th Anniversary celebrations, Ruth Moore, Director is planning to cycle to the Centre for 30 weeks of 2021.
150 journeys, 30 miles (15 each way) will add up to a total of 4500 miles.
Although she is being honest about her use of an e-bike (she says the hills are too steep for her now!) she still has to pedal hard whatever the weather and has certainly set herself a difficult challenge. Everybody keeps asking why 30 days wasn’t enough!
Ruth is asking that you pick a date, that might be special to you, and sponsor the spin that day. You can sponsor the day anonymously or have your name or short message added to the St Wilfrid’s website calendar, showing your support. If you prefer to reserve a day over the phone, please call 0114 2555720.
Ruth will provide updates throughout the 30 weeks and hopefully some pictures of things she captures on the way. (I hope not too many flies!)
St Wilfrid's Centre's Bishop's Walk 2020
Bishop’s Walk 2020
Bishop Ralph and Ruth Moore, our new Head of Centre, will be leaders of a group of 6 people who will be walking a socially distant walk from Dronfield to Sheffield City Centre. Ruth wants to raise awareness of the work of St Wilfrid’s Centre in Sheffield and to get to know the local community of supporters of the Centre. We will be passing through Norton, Meadowhead, Millhouses, Ecclesall, Abbeydale and Heeley en route to the Catholic Cathedral of St Marie, which will be our final destination.
St Wilfrid’s Centre has been supporting homeless and vulnerable people throughout the pandemic and together with many other organisations in Sheffield we have helped many people through a very difficult time.
St Wilfrid’s continues to offer support to all our clients and to rough sleepers who call in to the Centre for help.
