August 19 - Day 119 - Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it. And that's such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life. Helen Mirren

Instead of including a photograph of clouds, cows or cars (even though I wish I could picture a few that overtake dangerously close), I thought I’d show you this wonderful sunflower growing in flowerbeds at the centre. It can’t help but make you smile and together with the other flowers that Dominic and the clients planted earlier in the year, really brightens the place up.

The quotation from Helen Mirren also makes you smile with the thought of the sunflowers tracking the sun across the sky throughout the day. Holding on to whatever glimmer of light there is, whether in Kabul or the homes of those who are struggling, lonely or vulnerable is a good lesson for life - or perhaps it’s about trying to provide some of that light ourselves. Whether it’s cheerful flowers that greet people at the Centre or the smiling faces of volunteers and staff as they welcome more clients back, we can all do much to put some light, however weak, back into people’s lives. If like the sunflower you can follow and join us on that journey through the support you give, I’m sure we can help to make the light brighter and stronger. As we move into Autumn and the nights draw in, it’s important we don’t forget those who don’t have light and warmth in their lives. If we can create for others the feeling that is achieved by looking at a sunflower, I am sure we will have done some good.
