August 20 - Day 120 -See the minutes, how they run, How many make the hour full complete; How many hours bring about the day; How many days will finish up the year.' Shakespeare

After today, I only have 30 days to go - which is hard to believe, given how far away it seemed back in February when I was freezing cold and the mornings and evenings were dark. I will also have completed 3600 miles. 3600 is an interesting number (and linked to the quote) as there are 3600 seconds in an hour. Now I know I’m not cycling for a whole day (even though it sometimes feels like I have when I get home) but 150 days is 12960000 seconds - which seems a huge amount of time when put like that.

Last week I was watching the Skills for Living Group - Living with Numbers - explore the height that the pole jumpers could reach in the Olympics. When Patrick climbed the fire escape to mark four and five metres on the wall, we were all amazed and a little frightened by the thought of holding on to only a pole to get that high in the air. I know it takes years of practice (though I’m not sure how you learn to pole vault - a shorter pole first and a very large and thick crash mat? but it still seems incredible what humans push themselves to do. Watching the Centre reopen fully over the past few weeks and seeing what value coming to the Centre holds for so many , I also continue to be amazed by the strength of humanity. When we look at the complexity and backgrounds of many people and the current difficulties some people face, we are able to recognise that a huge achievement for some is not gaining a gold at the Olympics but venturing out of the house, doing some shopping or talking to another person for the first time in a week.

Cycling 4500 miles may be a challenge but it is nothing compared to the challenges people face across the world today. So, as I complete the first 120 days, it would be great if I could be sponsored for every day left - not just to keep me motivated but because I know that money would make a difference to the challenges people face and the impact that the Centre can have.
