15th April - Day 34 - “What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are.” C S Lewis

I decided that from now on I would bring my camera with me. This does mean that unlike the small handlebar mounted one, I have to get off, undo the panniers and find a safe place to stand. It’s worth it though, when I’m able to share pictures like this one.

I’d just gone past Owlerbar yesterday evening when I spotted the deer and ended up standing at the side of the road for about ten minutes watching them and taking pictures. I can see my journeys getting longer each day! As I promised no more deer puns, I will instead include another useless fact - that antlers are one of the fastest growing types of tissue in all mammals.

Some of the cars whizzing past were clearly bemused by me pointing my camera at what they probably saw as empty moorland. To add to the C S Lewis quote, it’s probably not just where you are standing that determines what you see but the speed at which you approach life. That in itself is often influenced by the sort of person you are. To see the deer camouflaged against the brown moorland or the vulnerable or isolated person in a crowd, you need to want to notice, you need to care about what you see and you certainly need to make time to absorb and understand.

This morning, I managed to get a lovely picture of a Longhorn calf - but you have to wait for tomorrow now for that.
