30 March - Day 24 - It was one of those March Days.
'It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.' Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
The quotation was perfect to sum up this morning’s ride. One of my favourite sights is when mist gathers in the valleys and the landscape looks like a mixture of sea and islands, rather than land. The picture doesn’t quite do the view justice but it’s one of those where the vastness of everything around you actually creates what I call ‘space in my head’.
With the demands of our lives and the worries that force their way into our minds and fill them up, it is so important that we find that space, find a moment when we can just be. So as the restrictions of lockdown ease, it is not only important that we all stay safe but that we don’t let our lives get full of the clutter we have tried hard to clear out over the past year. St Wilfrid’s provides not just the space to be but for many the much needed space in people’s heads. That’s why it’s a privilege coming to work here each morning and that’s also why the money everyone has donated will make such a big difference to the light and shade of clients’ lives.
