July 7 - Day 90 - 'It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.' E. E. Cummings
Today would have been my Mum and Dad’s 59th Wedding Anniversary had Mum not died last year. Given they had three daughters, very little money for years and I’m sure we weren’t the easiest to manage when growing up, this seemed a good day to give you an update on the three sibling goslings. I see Mum and Dad geese most mornings standing either side of their three resting offspring (see additional picture) and it seems that they have certainly protected them well, despite I suspect a number of struggles.
I’m not sure whether I should in fact now call them geese as they have certainly lost all their gosling down and have, it seems, all the feathers and features of the adult Canadian goose. I love the way they tuck their heads round the back. It would help on the bike if I could do that sometimes.
Growing up is often not very easy and the quote in the title about needing courage to become who you really are, is something that many people can relate to. Both my Mum and Dad encouraged all three of us to do just that and given how different we are as siblings, it seemed to work. Let’s hope we can all have courage to stick to our principles and be the people we want to be and not what other people think we should be.
