19 March - Day 17 - Pull your socks up!

Now I could be trying the sympathy factor today for getting sponsorship (see - the photograph I took this morning), given everyone told me it wasn’t going to rain and I got completely drenched and cold this morning. Luckily I had plugged the battery into the socks this morning and so that helped. When Jeff said to me this morning, I’ve heard people say pull your socks up, not plug them in, that led to all sorts of thoughts on the way here about the origin of that and ‘put a sock in it’ - more next week as there are lots of theories. I also had to cycle an extra section because of Queens Road being closed.

So, not one to feel sorry for myself, I have just asked Helen for an ongoing sponsorship total and at £1732 to date, the level of support is enough to make anyone pull their socks up and put a sock in it - so no more moaning. On the way home, I will pass the 500 mile mark, with the knowledge that any money raised will add so much to the work we do - and what’s 4000 miles (left to do) between friends and supporters!

I’ve just checked and the cycle route to Lands End in Cornwall from St Wilfrid’s Centre is 402 miles and suggests it will take 36 hours. To John O Groats it is 588 miles and should take 52 hours - so perhaps I’m not doing so bad after all.
