July 27 - Day 103 - 'Blue as the evening sky, blue as cranesbill flowers'. Cornelia Funke

During the induction training for new volunteers this morning, they were asked by Tracey to describe themselves as a colour. I decided that cobalt blue is probably my favourite colour but that it most likely also fits my character. Luckily, I’d also just taken a picture of this Cranesbill (Geranium) at the roadside and it seemed to fit.

The name derives from the Greek word, ‘geranos’, meaning crane. The plant seeds are said to resemble the bird - but I’m not too sure about that. The plants are also said to symbolise friendship, happiness and positive emotions and geranium oil is thought to be anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and a decongestant. All seems good to me.

So, going back to the colour, as I realise I managed to avoid telling you why I thought it matched my character. Remember I did have to think on the spot this morning. I suppose it’s because - not only is it a cheerful, positive colour (which I try to be) but it has a warmth in it (hence why I didn’t just say blue) It also stands out a bit amongst other colours (which I’m prepared to do if I feel I have to stick to a principle) while managing to blend well (which I hope I do). I’m sure my family and friends may at this point, however, be questioning my choice. So what colour describes you and why?.
